There are a number of popular hit counters available, but they report hits using graphics for the numbers. They look like an odometer. It's easy to build a counter that reports hits in a regular text font. And it's pretty classy.

This is a simple hidden counter which can be called through either an image tag or SSI. It will not only keep track of your visitors by day, month and year but will send you an email giving you the previous days totals.
